Potentially a Mild Week for Mortgage Markets

18 June 2007

Bonds are down today, yet mortgage rates improved today as a result of bond market strength late Friday.

There are no critical economic reports due out this week. Tuesday we’ll see May’s Housing Starts, with analysts expecting to see a drop from April to May.

Thursday we’ll get the LEI (Leading Economic Indicators) report from the Conference Board. This reports attempts to forecast economic activity over the next 3-6 months. It could have a mild affect on mortgage rates if we see any surprises.

The overall trend right now is for continued lower rates and a stronger bond.
