Quiet Week Expected for Mortgage Rates
5 November 2007
Today’s bond market has been flat without relevant economic news and the stock market down only slightly. Mortgage rates should be largely unchanged over Friday.
We can expect a fairly quiet week this week, unless there is futher unexpected volatility in the stock market, as there is no significant economic news due out. This week is very light in terms of economic releases for the markets to digest, especially compared to last week. There are two monthly and one quarterly reports on tap, but only the quarterly one can be considered to be highly important. This makes it quite likely that we will see a fairly quiet week in the mortgage markets, assuming that the stock markets do not repeat last week’s volatility. Wednesday we’ll get the 3Q Productivity report, and Friday brings September Goods and Services Trade Balance report, and November U of Michigan Index of Consumer Sentiment. None of these reports are considered to be of critical importance to mortgage rates.
